The Harbourmaster Saturday 13 April 2024 We once again take you Off The Beaten Track as we venture along the south Wales coast, featuring plenty of interest for fans of traversing freight track and lines which do not normally see a loco-hauled passenger train. Starting from London Paddington and after further pick-ups at Slough, Reading, Swindon and Bristol Parkway we head west through the Severn Tunnel into Wales as far as Newport. Here we utilise our first non-passenger track of the day, Alexandra Dock Junction up and down goods loop where we are booked to swap our passenger locomotive for a pair of GBRf Class 66 freight locomotives operating in 'Top and Tail' mode before we head further west into Wales. GBRf 66718 leads 'The Bluebell Railway' into Watford Junction on Saturday 23rd September 2023 image courtesy of Callum Amos After passing through Cardiff, Bridgend and Port Talbot Parkway, we veer left at Court Sart Junction to follow the diversionary Swansea District line as far as Bynea, where we are booked to enter the recently remodelled Llandeilo Goods loop before re-joining the main line at Llanelli where we pause to set down passengers. Now resuming our journey west, we utilise the seldom used (for passenger trains) Carmarthen avoiding line, and travel as far as Whitland. Now on routes which very rarely see locomotive hauled passenger trains, we head to Clarbeston Road Junction where we veer south-west towards Milford Haven. However, before reaching our destination we pause at Haverfordwest where we will have a break of around 90 minutes whilst the train is serviced. After reboarding the train we resume our journey south west toward the coast, but only as far as Herbrandston Junction. Here, for many, will be the highlight of the day as we enter the very rarely visited Robeston branch which we hope to explore to its extremity depending on operational factors determined on the day. After returning to the main line, we complete our journey to Milford Haven for a photo opportunity whilst the train reverses. Our return to London is via the Swansea Avoiding line and the Bishton flyover. We will also briefly visit Alexandra Dock Junction DGL in order to pick up our passenger locomotive for the journey back to London Paddington. First Class Dining includes The Great British Breakfast and a four course dinner. A buffet car is available for those in Standard Class and First Class Non Dining.

Neasden Nonsense Saturday 20th April 2024 Our latest tour with the delightful Hastings 'DEMU' in its extended 7 car formation featuring three power cars starts at Tonbridge and picks up at Bromley South and London Victoria and affords an opportunity for passengers to travel over some very rare non passenger track as we head into the Chilterns. From London Victoria, we traverse the rarely used Battersea Reversal Line and Acton South West Sidings as we weave through West London towards Greenford. Here we take the Greenford branch line, once a common diversionary route. Very little passenger traffic now passes beyond the station to Greenford West Junction but this is the route we take to access the Chiltern Main Line at South Ruislip for what we hope will be a non-stop run to Princes Risborough. From Princes Risborough, we turn right and head towards Aylesbury. Our more observant passengers will no doubt notice the mileage change to a bygone era when trains ran from Paddington via Maidenhead and Bourne End, a route finally closed in May 1970. We follow the single line to Aylesbury, after which we pass through the Aylesbury North Loop and head to Aylesbury Vale Parkway - a first for a Hastings unit we believe - where we have requested a 20 minute leg stretch break. We now retrace our steps towards High Wycombe and Gerrards Cross where we expect to utilise the bi-directional signalling and operate on the down line. We then plan to reverse and head back into the Gerrards Cross Turnback Siding. Resuming our journey towards the Capital, we pause at West Ruislip where we hope to become the first passenger train to enter the HS2 site that is accessed here, before once again heading east towards South Ruislip and Neasden where we take the rarely used (by passenger trains) curve onto the Acton Branch, a freight only line connecting the Midland Main and North London lines. The branch affords us access back onto the Great Western main line at Acton and in turn West Ruislip where we reverse in the Down Spur. From here we return through South Ruislip and onward towards Park Royal, thereby utilising the second side of the normally freight only Greenford triangle, still predominantly signalled by lower quadrant semaphores - surely unique nowadays in the London area? Once past Greenford East Junction we make a further reversal and complete the triangle as we head back towards Greenford South Junction and onward to Drayton Green, where we take the more unusual up west loop towards Hayes and Harlington. After reversing in the bay platform our special train returns to London Victoria via Acton Main Line, Barnes and the Battersea Reversible before setting down at Bromley South and Tonbridge, completing our wonderful day of thumping around the Chilterns and London! Our sincere thanks go to SCS who are allowing us access onto the HS2 site and UK Railtours is delighted to be supporting their nominated charity, Great Ormond Street Hospital, through the running of this tour.

Shrewsbury in Springtime Saturday 27th April 2024 Please note that at this stage the mini tour from Shrewsbury is not available to book on it's own. It can only be booked by those on the main tour. Should you wish to register your interest regarding booking the mini tour on its own please email info@ukrailtours.com and we will contact you nearer the tour date, if availability allows us to offer this option. Many thanks! Our last Great Day Out to Shrewsbury took place during the autumn, so visiting in springtime will bring a totally different experience - with plants in bloom and hopefully much better weather! This tour offers three different off-train options. Visit fascinating Ironbridge and Blists Hill Museum, the splendour of Attingham Park or relax in the serenity of a River Severn Cruise. Alternatively, for those of an enthusiast persuasion we are planning an 'Off the Beaten Track' mini tour from Shrewsbury providing both track and traction interest. Our journey begins at London Paddington, heading west as we follow the 'M4 corridor' with pickups in Slough and Reading before veering north to Didcot and Oxford. Soon the urban sprawl is replaced by rolling countryside as we head for the county town of Shropshire, Shrewsbury. Our return route takes us via the Marches line, passing through Hereford and Abergavenny before taking the Maindee Curve to avoid Newport for our first set down at Bristol Parkway before returning to London. SHREWSBURY Is it pronounced 'Shroozbury' or 'Shrowsbury'? It's not worth worrying about as even people who live here don't agree! What can't be disputed is that it's a really delightful place, famous for its beautiful gardens, its frontage on the meandering River Severn and of course for its connections with its most famous citizen Charles Darwin. There's a great range of shops and plenty of welcoming bars and cafes, and the river cruise (not included in the tour fare) is especially pleasant. The station is not far from the centre, so it really is an ideal place to while away an afternoon. You will have around four hours at leisure. OFF-TRAIN OPTION - RIVER SEVERN CRUISE Why not include a 45-minute cruise on the River Severn as part of your visit to Shrewsbury? It's a ten minute walk from Shrewbsury station to Victoria Quay, where you will find the triple deck, modern passenger boat 'Sabrina', Enjoy the beautiful scenery while listening to an entertaining commentary from her knowledgeable captain. There is a bar onboard for service of drinks and snacks. We expect to be on the 1pm sailing, so there will be plenty of time to explore the city after your aquatic adventure. OFF-TRAIN OPTION - IRONBRIDGE AND BLISTS HILL MUSEUM Coaches meet our train at Telford Central. Our first stop is in the village of Ironbridge where you can see and walk across the famous bridge that has come to symbolise the Industrial Revolution and its birthplace. You'll have time to pick up a souvenir or two before rejoining the road coaches for a very short journey to Blists Hill Museum, a truly amazing recreated Victorian town. Here you'll experience what life was like when Britain ruled the world. Meet some (almost) real Victorians in their authentic shops and cottages, buy curious goods from a bygone era and watch tradespeople in action in their atmospheric workshops and factories. You will have well over two hours here, and this option includes your entry as well as your coach transfers. OFF-TRAIN OPTION - ATTINGHAM PARK One of our National Trust destinations, visit a lavish 18th century mansion shaped by a story of love and neglect. Built for the first Lord Berwick in 1785, Attingham was owned by one family for more than 160 years. As fortunes rose and fell they proved themselves to be spenders, savers and saviours, leaving a tantalising story of love and neglect whose mark still shows in Attingham's fascinating rooms today. Outside, discover the tranquil solace of the Walled Garden and bring some produce home with you from the shop. Or walk through the woodlands and deer park to see what wildlife you can spot. Coaches will be waiting at Telford Central for the transfer to Attingham Park, taking around twenty five minutes. You will have around three and a half hours to explore this enchanting place. The off-train option includes coach transfer and your entry into Attingham. Attingham is owned by the National Trust and we are pleased to offer an appropriate discount for NT members. MINI TOUR OPTION - THE SHREWSBURY CIRCULAR We're pleased to introduce an 'Off The Beaten Track' option for those who would rather stay aboard the train and get their Baker Bibles out. Join us for an optional three hour, 100 mile circular tour of Cheshire and Lancashire featuring rare track and freight traction supplied by our friends at GBRf. From Shrewsbury our class 66 locomotive (a rare example has been requested!) leads our train north into Wales passing through Gobowen and Wrexham where our path reduces to single track as far as Rossett Junction. Now back in England, we continue heading north through Chester via the down and up goods line where we join the line towards Warrington. We soon reach Mickle Trafford Junction where we turn towards the East. Our circular tour now heads towards Manchester but on reaching Northwich we divert onto the freight only track through Middlewich to Sandbach, where we join the Manchester to London main line towards Crewe. However, before reaching Crewe we once again join the freight tracks, namely the Manchester and Salop Independent lines that allow us to avoid the busy station at Crewe. Finally, now west of Crewe, our special train heads back towards Shropshire passing through the attractive Cheshire towns of Nantwich and Whitchurch before reaching our destination at Shrewsbury. A buffet car is available for those in Standard Class and First Class Non Dining. First Class Dining includes The Great British Breakfast and a four course dinner. Dining is not available back to Didcot Parkway due to insufficient journey time from Shrewsbury. Off train options and the mini tour must be pre-booked and are subject to a supplementary charge. Coach transfers (where applicable) and entry to attractions are included in this charge

Kernow Friday 3rd May 2024 to Monday 6th May 2024 PROVISIONAL The railways of Cornwall continue to flourish, and the improvements in the level of service continue. But of course, Cornwall has a thriving rail freight scene, which is rarely explored. Join us for a long weekend exploring this fascinating and scenic part of the world as we set out to cover all the passenger branches loco hauled with English Electric Type 4 locomotives provided by our good friends at the Class 50 Alliance. Our equally good friends at DB Cargo will operate a fascinating four-day programme for us starting Friday 3rd May, with Class 66 locomotives expected to haul the start of the adventure between Doncaster and pickup points to Bescot. Our special train will be a charity excursion, raising funds for Martin House Hospice, and the usual team of faces you have come to know will be on hand to make this a very special event, as we explore numerous non-passenger facilities in addition to the passenger lines themselves. There will be plenty of leg stretch breaks and photo stops throughout the weekend, and the opportunity to visit places loco hauled trains have not visited for a number of years! A single base over the three nights away lends itself to simple accommodation logistics. As you would expect, we will be making the most of the journey to and from Yorkshire, as our friends across the freight industry align once again to help make this a truly memorable experience.

Following a break in the historic border city of Carlisle our journey continues along the scenic Cumbrian coastal line. Our train heads into the Yorkshire Dales for a spectacular journey over the magnificent high Pennines. The sheer scale of the scenery is apparent as we pass such famous landmarks as Ribblehead Viaduct with stunning views of the three peaks. One magnificent sight follows another before we gradually descend into the tranquil Eden Valley and the border city of Carlisle for a break of around two hours. We return around the longest and most scenic coastal line in England - the beautiful twisting Cumbrian coast route hugs the coastline offering spectacular views across the Solway Firth and towards the Isle of Man, passing historic Whitehaven, pretty Ravenglass and around Morecambe Bay with the background of the Lake District Mountains aglow with the setting sun.
Dorset Coast Statesman Saturday 15 June 2024 Departing from Norwich, Diss, Stowmarket, Ipswich, Manningtree, Colchester, Chelmsford and Shenfield The celebrated 'Statesman' land cruise train travels to the south coast for a memorable journey through the beautiful New Forest with the opportunity to visit either Bournemouth, Poole, or Weymouth. We travel through maritime Southampton and across the beautiful New Forest to our first optional stop at Bournemouth where around four hours will be available to enjoy the elegant seaside resort with seven miles of golden sands, a vast variety of shops and beautiful award-winning gardens. Alternatively, alight at Poole where we offer a break of around three hours - with its bustling Quay and stunning natural harbour there are beautiful views across to the Isle of Purbeck. Perhaps take a boat trip to Brownsea Island, rich in wildlife and history or take a Jurassic coastal cruise. There are a multitude of eateries along the harbour where the local seafood is a speciality. The last destination of our train for a break of around two hours is the ancient seaside town of Weymouth and was a favourite haunt of King George III with historical buildings and Georgian seafront, a modern town centre complemented by quaint side streets, all of which is connected by over three miles of level promenade. The picturesque leisure harbour boasts fishing boats, yachts, and catamarans.
The Ancient Kingdom Saturday 15th June 2024 Taking full advantage of a long summer day we venture north to the Kingdom of Northumbria. We have three very different off-train options to choose from - the wonderful Holy Island of Lindisfarne, the Aln Valley Railway or a visit to picturesque Alnwick - along with an interesting 'Off the Beaten Track' mini tour for those who prefer to spend most of the day onboard our comfortable special train. Our journey takes us through York, past Durham Castle and Cathedral and we glimpse Antony Gormley's extraordinary 'Angel of the North' as we approach Newcastle. After pausing at Alnmouth we reach Berwick-upon-Tweed, the border town still redolent of centuries of conflict between the English and the Scots. OFF-TRAIN OPTION - THE HOLY ISLAND OF LINDISFARNE Perched tantalisingly just off the Northumberland coast and cut off by the tide twice a day, Holy Island and its Priory are considered one of the holiest sites in Britain. We leave the train at Berwick where coaches will be waiting for the fourteen mile journey which includes the narrow causeway that connects the island with the mainland. We can assure potential participants that we have checked the tide tables! We have some two and a half hours here, time to take a walk to the castle or just explore this extraordinary place. Don't forget to purchase a bottle of the local produce, Lindisfarne Mead. OFF TRAIN OPTION - THE ALN VALLEY RAILWAY Step aboard heritage carriages and embark on a steam train ride through the beautiful Northumbrian countryside from Lionheart Station to Greenrigg Halt, where passengers often see deer, hares, birds and other wildlife from the train. At Lionheart Station, friendly and knowledgeable volunteer guides will give passengers a tour of the site, including an introduction to the railway's small fleet of locomotives in the engine shed and the Directors Coach under the heritage canopy. Simon Hadden, a passionate railway volunteer, will give an insightful talk on the history of Aln Valley Railway. In addition to the train ride, tour and talk, passengers can relax and enjoy refreshments in the cafe or browse the railway's shop at their leisure. Whether you are a railway enthusiast, someone interested in history and nostalgia, or you enjoy nature and the outdoors, there is something for everyone at the Aln Valley Railway. Coaches will meet our train at Alnmouth for the transfer to the Aln Valley Railway. We plan to spend around three hours here before our coaches take us onward to the town of Alnwick where you will have a further hour or two to explore. The coaches will then return us to meet our train at Alnmouth. OFF TRAIN OPTION - ALNWICK AT LEISURE According to Country Life 'Alnwick is the most picturesque market town in Northumberland, and the best place to live in Britain'. The town dates back to about AD 600 and retains much of its original character. Alnwick Castle is the second largest inhabited castle in England, after Windsor. It is popular with film-makers; Blackadder, Robin Hood Prince of Thieves and Harry Potter are among films shot here. The Alnwick Garden is a complex of formal gardens adjacent to the castle. They have a long history under the Dukes of Northumberland but fell into disrepair until revived at the turn of the 21st century. The Garden now features various themed plantings designed around a central water cascade. It is the most ambitious new garden created in the UK post-war. The former railway station is now home to Barter Books, one of England's largest and most famous second hand bookshops. Some visitors spend all day here! There will be a transfer coach from Alnmouth station to Alnwick town centre. We have not included entry to any of the attractions in Alnwick as there is so much choice. You will have around four hours to explore. OFF THE BEATEN TRACK MINI TOUR - THE JOPPA JAUNT For those wishing to stay on the train we can offer a very interesting 'Off the Beaten Track' mini-tour across the border into Scotland and to the suburban lines of Edinburgh including plenty of non passenger track for the enthusiast. In particular, our tour will include access into Joppa Straight siding - a first for a passenger train we believe - where our train will be serviced in preparation for this evening's return trip to London. Leaving Berwick upon Tweed we head north and very quickly cross the border into Scotland. Continuing north through Dunbar and Drem we finally reach Monktonhall Junction. From here there are several alternative routings to access the Leith branch and we have requested an interesting option though we do not have confirmation of this as yet. Once we have accessed the Leith branch we expect to reverse into Joppa Straight Siding where the train will be serviced. Having returned to the East Coast Main Line we then start our journey south and for the track enthusiast we have asked to run through the Up Passenger Loops at Prestonpans, Drem and Granthouse as well as the Berwick Up Goods Loop where we will pause and wait for our path further south on the East Coast Main Line. FREE TIME IN ALNMOUTH OR NEWCASTLE If you decide not to go for one of the aforementioned options then you could choose to spend the day in either vibrant Newcastle or picturesque Alnmouth. You will have over five hours to explore either city.

Oban affords magnificent views across the bay to the islands of the Inner Hebrides. It has become a magnet for tourists and is known as the holiday capital of the Highlands and seafood capital of Scotland. Snowdonia Statesman Wednesday 19 June 2024 Departing from Cardiff Central, Newport, Severn Tunnel Junction, Chepstow, Lydney, Gloucester, Cheltenham Spa, Worcestershire Parkway, Barnt Green and Birmingham New Street 'The Statesman' celebrated train heads to North Wales for a journey along the spectacular coast with sweeping sea views and then climbs high into the Snowdonia National Park and up the stunningly beautiful Conwy Valley. There is the option of spending an afternoon break of around 3 hours at the popular tourist centre of Betws-y-Coed or continue to Blaenau Ffestiniog where we have an optional steam excursion on the famous Ffestiniog Railway. Travelling across the Cheshire plain to Chester and passing the Roman Walls we enter Wales running alongside the Irish Sea on a coastline famed for its beaches and views. At Llandudno Junction the train reverses for the spectacular journey up the beautiful Conwy Valley where a breath-taking range of scenery unfolds, from historic castles through estuary rich in wildlife, to majestic crags with views of tumbling waterfalls. The high peaks of Snowdonia are on view before our train finally enters the imposing slate landscape of Blaenau Ffestiniog. Mobility This tour is not suitable for guests with wheelchairs or serious mobility issues as the platforms at some stations are only accessible by a footbridge. It is not possible to transfer between our train and the Ffestiniog Railway in a wheelchair.
The Return of the Jolly Fisherman 125 Special Saturday 22nd June 2024 UK Railtours are proud to present a Seaside Special to bracing Skegness aboard an Intercity 125 High Speed Train at a really bargain price, so why not bring your friends and family and make a day of it? The concept of 125 Specials is not new, but in recent years one that has been difficult for us to offer. We are very grateful to our friends at The 125 Group and Rail Adventure for enabling us to bring back this much loved day out which is sure to delight customers of all ages! Noted for its well-tended seaside gardens and long sandy beaches, welcoming Skegness is a must for an early Summer visit before the school holidays start! Skegness was primarily a fishing village and small port until the arrival of the railway in 1875. In 1908, Great Northern commissioned a poster to advertise excursions to the resort, the first being on Good Friday that year. The 'Skegness is so Bracing' poster featuring The Jolly Fisherman helped to put Skegness on the map and is now world famous. The poster, derived from an old painting by John Hassall, was purchased by the railway company for just 12 guineas. Our Intercity 125 is very much in contrast to the Skegness excursion trains of bygone times. Whilst our carriages are provided by the 125 Group (see below), we will be hauled by the immaculate two-tone grey power cars of Rail Adventure. These are usually found moving empty trains around the country and rarely haul a passenger train - a real treat! The journey we take is an interesting one, via Nottingham to Sleaford and onward through the distinctive Lincolnshire countryside past wayside halts and little signal boxes controlling traditional semphore signals. Skegness station, very much a 'railway outpost' these days, is an easy level walk from Clock Tower Gardens, the promenade and the beach. Of course no visit here would be complete without sampling the local delicacy of fish and chips or maybe an ice cream! You will have around four hours at leisure in Skegness to explore this marvelous seaside resort. A QUICK HISTORY LESSON On the 30th January 1988 Hertfordshire Railtours (as we were formerly known) ran the inaugural '125 Special'. Starting at London St Pancras, the tour travelled over the Settle and Carlisle Railway northbound, and then on the return followed a circuitous route via York, Sheffield and Derby to return home. In the years following, both Hertfordshire Railtours and latterly UK Railtours ran almost two hundred 125 Specials, travelling all over the United Kingdom from Cornwall to Scotland. They became almost synonymous with the company, and continued long after the demise of BR Intercity with the assistance of Stagecoach's East Midlands Trains. Our final 125 Special ran on the 16th September 2017? or so everybody thought! Our association with the 125 Group goes back almost as far as our 125 Specials. Formed in 1994, the 125 Group sales stand was a popular guest onboard many of our 125 Specials. Since those days the Group has grown by leaps and bounds, and now are the proud owners of their very own set of High Speed Train Mk 3 carriages, including several class 43 power cars. Based at the Midland Railway at Butterley, the Group's set ran its first main line test run (pictured above) in October of last year with great results. Out of all 196(!) of our 125 Specials, the one that is best remembered is almost certainly 'The Lincolnshire Poacher' - our visit to Skegness on the 22nd February 1992. The first time an HST had visited the popular seaside resort, we were met by a brass band, the town mayor and the Jolly Fisherman himself! Over the years we've visited several more times and always received a warm welcome (such as in 2011, pictured above), so for our first 125 Special of the new era we really couldn't go anywhere else! A buffet car is available. There is no First Class Dining aboard this railtour.

People first came to the small fishing village of Skegness to enjoy the sea air in the second half of the 18th century, but it was not until after the railway reached here in 1873 that it expanded to the town we know today. It is still one of the most popular seaside resorts in England. With the advent of general paid holidays in the 1930s, excursion trains to Skegness became a feature of the line even into the 1980s with up to ten-loco hauled trains a day - perhaps bringing as many as 5,000 visitors in every day. Powered for most of the day by a class 40 diesel, one of a type made frequent appearances on those trains from the 1960s until a final run almost forty years ago (on 15 September 1984) when 40181 did the honours. A West Coast Railways Class 47 or 57 will take the train from Burton-on-Trent via Birmingham to Crewe, from where Class Forty Preservation Society No.D345 (40145) will take charge to Skegness. The proposed route then is Stockport - Guide Bridge - Hope Valley - Sheffield - Worksop - Retford - Gainsborough Lea Road - Lincoln - Sleaford - Skegness for a break of around three hours. The return is via Boston - Sleaford - Nottingham - Beeston - Castle Donington - Burton-on-Trent (Set-Down) and as outward back to Crewe via Birmingham. --------- ON BOARD FEATURES INCLUDE: - Reserved seats aligned with the carriage windows - A printed excursion and journey guide for everyone - A travelling licensed buffet with refreshments, including alcoholic and soft drinks - The Premier Dining service includes The Great British Breakfast, Elevenses and four course Evening Dinner - Cheerful, friendly and helpful Pathfinder Stewards! --------- ESTIMATED TIMINGS Joining Stations Depart Return Burton-on-Trent 0610 2000 Birmingham New Street 0650 2040 Sandwell & Dudley 0705 2055 Wolverhampton 0720 2110 Stafford 0740 2130 Crewe 0830 2200 Search Search Fares Adult Junior Party x4 Availability Premier Dining £299 £279 £1156 Book Now First Class £195 £175 £740 Book Now Standard Class £129 £89 £476 Book Now Book tickets Table for Two seats are available at a supplement of £45 per person in Premier Dining and First Class. The Dean Forest Railway Saturday 27th July 2024 Fancy making a weekend of it? - Passengers are advised that it is our intention to run a further service using the 4TC carriages on Sunday 28th July from London Fenchurch Street to various East Anglian branch lines and a sought after freight facility. Bookings will open soon! Our first tour with the 4TC for a few years sees us take the train to the Dean Forest Railway, a four-and-a-half-mile long heritage railway which runs through the beautiful countryside and woodland of West Gloucestershire. We start the train at Basingstoke in traditional 4TC territory, and with a Class 33 up front we head east to pick up passengers at Woking before a short detour via South London enables us to head west for our third pick up at Clapham Junction. After departing we head west via Feltham, Wokingham, and Reading with our final pick up at Didcot Parkway. From here a quick run up the Great Western mainline to Swindon where we head northwest via the scenic 'Golden Valley Line' to Gloucester. With wonderful views of the River Severn on the lefthand side we head towards Lydney where we transfer to the picturesque Dean Forest Railway. This preserved railway first started operating to the Forest of Dean in the 1970's and expanded to its current limit at Parkend in 2005. The 4.5 mile line runs through beautiful woodland and countryside, running at the relaxing pace of a typical country branchline. We plan to take our own 4TC train north to Parkend for a leg stretch and photo break of around half an hour before heading south to Norchard, the line's headquarters. Here we detrain for a break of around two hours, ample time to visit the cafe, gift shop and the Dean Forest Railway Museum which specialises in the Forest of Dean and the Wye Valley Railways. Additionally this is the site of the locomotive depot. We expect there to be enough time to allow passengers a ride on a scheduled Dean Forest Railway steam hauled service should they wish to and this is included in the tour fare. After our break we return to Lydney and across onto Network Rail metals for our home run, following our outward route through Gloucester and Swindon as far as Didcot Parkway for our first set down. From here we head via the Reading West Curve and Southcote Junction to Basingstoke for our second set down. The train then reverses and we follow our initial outbound journey via Woking to set down passengers, continuing through Wimbledon, Tulse Hill and Brixton before terminating at Clapham Junction. The train will be diesel hauled by 33012, leading the London Transport 4TC. A GBRf class 66 will take over from Basingstoke on the return trip. Please note that on this trip it is not possible to pick up the train at Reading due to pathing constraints. Your fare on this tour includes passage on the Dean Forest Railway's scheduled services. Please note first class accommodation is situated in compartments of six seats. There are no First Class Dining or junior fares on this tour. We expect to be able to offer a range of cold drinks and snacks onboard but no hot food or hot drinks will be available.

By Routemaster to the lost village of Imber Saturday 17th August 2024 Our last visit to Imber for the Imberbus event was way back in 2019, and since then we've been itching to return. With the support of our friends at GB Railfreight and Hastings Diesels Ltd, we are delighted to announce that it's finally happening! Hidden from view on Salisbury Plain, the village of Imber is no longer inhabited as the residents were evicted just before Christmas 1943 by the MoD, in order to step up army training in advance of D-Day. The villagers were promised that their village would be returned to them after the war but this was not to be and over seventy-five years on it is still uninhabited, much of it having been destroyed. It remains in use for army training purposes but the connecting road over the Plain is open to the public on a very limited number of occasions each year. Imberbus is an unusual event by any standards. Since 2009, on just one day a year, an intensive service of London Routemaster Buses has operated between Warminster and Imber, continuing to remote spots such as New Zealand Farm and the curiously-named Brazen Bottom. The annual event has raised many thousands of pounds for the British Legion and for the upkeep of Imber Church, one of the very few buildings to survive intact. The event has grown and the 2023 running hosted up to 25 buses running at once, around 4,000 visitors carried and more than £38,000 raised for charity. In a change from previous years, in 2024 we will be using the Hastings DEMU 1001. This means we will have a buffet car onboard as well as adding extra capacity to what is sure to be a popular railtour. Our special train will run from Tonbridge, pausing to pickup passengers at East Croydon, London Waterloo, Woking and Basingstoke en-route to Warminster via Salisbury. On the way home we take a slightly longer route, travelling via Romsey, Southampton and Winchester before our first set down at Basingstoke. An Imberbus rover ticket is included in your fare so you can travel to each of the Imberbus destinations aboard your choice of Routemasters - old and new, long and short, red and green! You can access parts of Imber itself, and the church will be open.
