In advance of our exciting 'Southern Seaside Sparrow' railtour the following day, why not join us for a great value positioning move from Great Yarmouth to Liverpool Street and Ely via some classic routes for Class 37s. Our traction will be two Class 37s working top and tail and we are expecting that one of our locos, provided by EPR, will be a former Stratford allocated machine and running over routes once so familiar.
For those so inclined, you can start your day at Great Yarmouth for a run to Norwich via Reedham. Others may choose to join us at Norwich for a more sociable start time and the run behind what we hope will be our Class 37/0 locomotive. As you might expect our route to London Liverpool Street is not straightforward as we initially travel west to Ely before joining the Soham Branch via Bury St Edmunds. Having journeyed into Suffolk we rejoin the Anglian main line north of Stowmarket, heading towards Ipswich and thereafter pass through Colchester, Chelmsford and Shenfield before entering the urban sprawl of East London and terminating at London Liverpool Street.
After a short break we leave London Liverpool Street with our second Class 37 leading via Bethnal Green and Tottenham Hale, with a set down at Broxbourne and Cambridge North and a mid-afternoon arrival at Ely. Whilst we acknowledge the pathing constraints charters face on the mainline, we have not requested any loops or track bobbins on this trip in the hope that Network Rail can provide us with some high-speed running during the day!
This positioning move is operated by Hanson and Hall Rail Services, utilising Mk2 carriages provided by Eastern Rail Services and Class 37 locomotives from EPR.

It seems incredible that rail operation at 125 mph has been happening on the railways of Great Britain for fifty years. It was on the 4th October 1976 that the first public trains operated at this speed, opening a complete new chapter in the operations of our railways. It was a massive step change over what had gone before and it was all thanks to the iconic High Speed Train.
To celebrate the fiftieth anniversary, 125 Group - as custodian of one of the few remaining operational HSTs in England - is planning to operate a celebratory tour on Saturday the 3rd October 2026, retracing the routes of the initial day of operation. Using our beautifully restored coaches and power cars, we will travel from London Paddington via Box Tunnel to Bristol Temple Meads. After a short break, we will venture through the Severn Tunnel into Wales to reach Swansea where we will take a longer break, before returning to Paddington via the Chipping Sodbury route - all lines that saw HST operation on that first week in October fifty years ago.
We will be offering travel in either First or Standard accommodation and our 125 Group buffet will be available for hot and cold drinks and snacks. Every participant will receive a Commemorative Brochure celebrating the initial day and the events over the fifty years since. You can join us for the whole day, or for various individual single legs which will all be available to book shortly through our new on-line booking site.
It will be a day to remember - and a great opportunity for another trip over the famous GWR High Speed routes in a beautifully presented InterCity 125.

We are heading to beautiful Bognor Regis! So please join us onboard a proper loco-hauled train with loud Class 37 locomotives providing the power as we explore Southern routes which seldom see a fantastic train such as ours. We offer very sociable start and finish times, a rare branch and routing for Class 37s and a generous early afternoon break in a fabulous location. In addition, we have planned the route and timings so that all the rare loco hauled track will be covered during daylight hours, so you won't miss a thing. We will certainly have a lot of fun as some graded routes will ensure the noise of our locomotives will reverberate around the gentrified suburbs of the Capital and the Home Counties where other passengers awaiting their mundane electric trains will look on agog as we thunder through, and swarms of enthusiasts attempt to capture the moment for their social media content whilst secretly wishing they were sat in your seat!
Our day starts in Ely with our Class 37/4 leading towards our further pick ups at Cambridge North, Letchworth Garden City and Stevenage. Soon we divert from the East Coast Main Line at Langley Junction for a rare run via Hertford North to collect more passengers before heading south to our north London pick up point of Finsbury Park. We navigate our way via Gospel Oak, Willesden High Level and Kensington Olympia, before reaching the complicated maze of lines in South London. Many fabulous sights of the Capital will be visible through your window as we head towards the city centre and our final pick up point of London Bridge in the shadow of the Shard.
Our departure route will be very rare indeed for Class 37 haulage as we pass New Cross, climb up to Lewisham then curve round to take the Mid Kent Line heading towards Elmers End and into the terminus at Hayes. Here we have a short break, hopefully just enough time to grab a photo, before retracing our steps. We continue back as far as New Beckenham where, very unusually, we reverse round the curve to Beckenham Junction, to allow us to take the former London Chatham & Dover route via Penge East to Herne Hill. Here we once again reverse before taking the former LBSCR line to Tulse Hill, Crystal Palace, Croydon, Sutton and then onwards towards the stunning Mid Sussex Line. With its gradients providing the audible pleasure, we race along through Dorking, Horsham, Amberley and into the beautiful River Arun Valley before finally arriving at Bognor Regis where our locos take a well-earned rest!
Bognor Regis - Today's tour affords us an off train break of a couple of hours at the charming seaside resort of Bognor Regis. Blessed with one of the sunniest climates in Britain which we hope will hold until the autumn(!), and with the promenade and award-winning beach just ten minutes stroll from the station, Bognor is a great destination. You will find ample opportunities for refreshment just a short walk from the station, and we will be sure to let the local pubs and fish and chip shops know we are coming!
Fully rested and refreshed our trusty Class 37s will now take us along the delightful Southern Coast through Worthing and Shoreham. The route offers a seamless mix of traditional seaside resorts, coastal marshland, and views across to the South Downs. At Hove we turn left via the Cliftonville Curve round to Preston Park to join the busy Brighton main Line. From here its 'hammer time' as we take the fast, former Brighton Belle route, hopefully non-stop back to London Victoria. After saying a fond farewell to any passengers who wish to leave us in Central London, we weave our way back towards Finsbury Park via Kensington Olympia, Willesden and North London, then onwards via the Hertford Loop with more passenger set downs at Hertford North and Stevenage and across the Hitchin Flyover towards Letchworth, Cambridge North and Ely to end what has sure to have been a fantastic day for all travelling around the beautiful South of England behind vintage motive power.

Departing Inverness around 09.00 we enjoy one of the 'Great Railway Journeys of the World' - the spectacular and scenic coast to coast highland route takes us through Dingwall and over the high plateau at Achnasheen, where great herds of wild deer roam, before descending to sea level and around the shore of beautiful Loch Carron to Kyle of Lochalsh, with stunning views across to the Isle of Skye. Our train returns in the afternoon retracing the scenic journey to Inverness.

Not satisfied with this exciting event, we will need to get our set back to Bury on Sunday 4th October - so what better way to do it than by recreating an operation from twenty-three years ago with 'The Rio Revival'. Hoping to start from St Pancras at a friendly time, we will run up the Midland Mainline, calling at Leicester, Chesterfield, Stockport and Manchester Piccadilly. Single fares only, as there is no return offering but what better way to travel north after the previous day's tour? Might even be a discount for booking both tours!!

It is with great pleasure that Locomotive Services Group, in association with the AC Locomotive Group, announce the first public mainline operation of Class 89 89001 'Avocet' for over 25 years for a memorable journey from Crewe to Glasgow Central and return. Today's train will not only be memorable for 89001's first public operation for over 25 years but it will also be the very first time the locomotive has been north of Carlisle on the WCML.
Following its withdrawal from active mainline service with GNER in October 2000, 89001 has resided at Doncaster Works, Bounds Green, Barrow Hill and latterly Crewe LSL. Bought by the AC Locomotive Group in late 2006 and residing at Barrow Hill, the locomotive was steadily restored towards a working locomotive. In late 2021 a partnership was announced between the AC Locomotive Group and Locomotive Services Group to see the outstanding work completed to return the locomotive to full working order.
In partnership with Network Rail and to meet modern day requirements, several test runs on the mainline were successfully completed. These reached the point where on Tuesday 14th July 89001 hauled 'The Chairman's Train' from Carlisle to London Euston. It is following this operation that the decision to operate todays' train was made.
The journey will take us from Crewe to Glasgow Central (13.30/15.00) via the West Coast Main Line.

Fort William
Fort William is a bustling town with the station situated close to the centre and affords magnificent views across Loch Linnhe. It has become a magnet for tourists and is known as the capital of the Highlands. There are plenty of small galleries and independent stores on the high street to browse as well as Ben Nevis Distillery with excellent visitor tours. Perhaps wander along the lochside to the ruined Inverlochy Castle or take a taxi to visit Neptune's Staircase on the Caledonian Canal.

We depart Fort William at 09.00 for the magnificent round trip on the 'Jacobite' line to Mallaig - Passing Ben Nevis we travel along the shoreline of Loch Eil and at Glenfinnan cross the viaduct featured in the 'Harry Potter' movies offering stunning vistas down Loch Shiel and regarded as the most spectacular view in Britain. There will be a short break in the pretty fishing port of Mallaig before retracing our outward route past the white sands of Morar with an arrival back in Fort William about 14.00 with the remainder of the afternoon at leisure for sightseeing.

Step aboard our special train, running exclusively on Saturday 24th October, for a memorable day excursion alone the scenic Settle to Carlisle Railway to our destinations of Skipton and Keighley.
Departing from Scotland's Capital, Edinburgh we head south with convenient pick-ups at Linlithgow, Falkirk Grahamston, Greenfaulds, Motherwell, Lockerbie and Carlisle it's easy to step aboard and let the adventure begin.
Travel together in beautifully restored British Rail Mk1 carriages, where spacious seating and large windows make it easy to relax and enjoy the views as they pass. Our train is hauled by British Rail Class 37025 'Inverness TMD' to and from Carlisle before being replaced by a pair of Locomotive Services Ltd Class 20s for the journey over the Settle to Carlisle Railway. A class 47 is expected to be on the rear for assistance and ETH supply.
On board, there's something for everyone. Enjoy the comfort of at-seat dining with a hearty breakfast on the outward journey and a delicious three-course evening dinner on the way home. Prefer something more casual? Our buffet car offers hot and cold drinks, morning rolls and plenty of snacks to keep little travellers smiling throughout the day.
Spend time exploring the Yorkshire market town of Skipton or head to Keighley for a trip on the heritage railway. However you choose to spend your time, this relaxed and enjoyable rail tour offers a wonderful way to travel creating memories that will last long after the journey ends.
Our journey begins in Edinburgh, where we warmly welcome our first passengers on board before heading towards Linlithgow, Falkirk Grahamston and Greenfaulds.
We then join the West Coast Mainline with further pick ups at Motherwell, Lockerbie and Carlisle.
At Carlisle we change locomotive before we begin our journey over the popular Settle to Carlisle Railway with some of the most picturesque landscapes in England including a trip across the stunning Ribblehead viaduct. We then arrive at our first destination of Skipton before continuing on to Keighley were we stable to the afternoon.
Skipton and Keighley - Free Time
We hope to be able to provide approximately 3 hours of free time in Skipton, allowing plenty time to experience everything that the village has to offer. For those who choose to stay on board for Keighley, we hope to have 2 hours of free time allowing adequate time for a trip along the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway.
Return Journey
Our return journey departs Keighely with our Class 20s up front and retraces our route back north to Carlisle before we swap for 37025 'Inverness TMD' back home.

Join us for a memorable autumn day out to the famous Yorkshire coast aboard The Whitby Goth Express, timed to coincide with Whitby's renowned Goth Weekend.
Our special Class 47 diesel hauled train departs from Preston, with convenient pick-up stations at Wigan, Manchester Victoria, Huddersfield, Leeds and York, before heading north-east via Yarm, Middlesbrough and the spectacular Esk Valley Line through Battersby to the historic seaside town of Whitby.
The journey over the Esk Valley Line is one of England's most scenic rural railways, winding through the beautiful North York Moors National Park, crossing remote countryside, charming villages and dramatic valleys before descending into Whitby.
Whitby Goth Weekend has its roots in the early 1990s, when fans of gothic music gathered in the town for what began as a small music event. Inspired in part by Whitby's enduring association with Bram Stoker's Dracula which features the town as the setting for some of the novel's most memorable scenes the weekend has grown into one of the world's best-known goth festivals. Today it attracts thousands of visitors from across the UK and beyond, celebrating gothic fashion, music and alternative culture in the unique surroundings of this historic Yorkshire seaside town.
On arrival, you'll have several hours at leisure to experience Whitby at its most atmospheric. With Halloween just around the corner, the town provides the perfect setting to embrace the spooky season, with its dramatic clifftop abbey, winding cobbled streets and rich folklore creating an unforgettable backdrop.
During the annual Whitby Goth Weekend, the town is transformed as thousands of visitors arrive dressed in elaborate Victorian and gothic-inspired costumes, creating a spectacular sight against the backdrop of Whitby's historic streets, bustling harbour and iconic abbey ruins. Whether you choose to get into the Halloween spirit, soak up the unique festival atmosphere, explore the famous abbey, climb the 199 Steps for panoramic views, stroll along the picturesque waterfront, indulge in Whitby's world-famous fish and chips, or browse the town's many independent shops and cafés, there's something for everyone to enjoy.
Later in the afternoon, rejoin our train for the return journey, retracing the picturesque Esk Valley route through Battersby and Middlesbrough before returning via Yarm, York, Leeds, Huddersfield, Manchester Victoria, Wigan and Preston.
