After industrial use at BSC Corby Steelworks, it saw extensive service at the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway and later moved to the Caledonian Railway. Visiting courtesy of Jon Gill Class 20 No. 20166 Class 20 No. 20166 was built at the Vulcan Foundry in Newton-le-Willows and entered service as No. D8166 in 1966. It was preserved by The Diesel and Electric Preservation Group, going on to haul the first service operated by a diesel loco purchased by public subscription in the UK and the first mainline diesel loco to operate on the preserved WSR in 1977. Visiting courtesy of The Diesel and Electric Preservation Group Limited. 37250 Class 37 No. 37250 Sporting a distinctive English, Welsh, Scottish (EWS) livery. East Lancashire Railway - Flying Scotsman at the ELR

Flying Scotsman at the ELR 5, 6, 7, 13, 14 June 2026 The people's engine returns! We're thrilled to announce the visit of the magnificent LNER Class A3 60103 'Flying Scotsman' to the East Lancashire Railway. This record-breaking engine is making a long anticipated return to our line, so don't miss out on this rare opportunity to see the People's Engine up close. First entering service in 1923, Flying Scotsman became a British icon, representing the very best of steam-era innovation. She was the first steam locomotive that was officially recorded at 100 miles per hour, and a century later she still attracts worldwide attention. Her journey has not always been easy - having narrowly escaped being scrapped during the Beeching cuts to multiple ownerships, global tours and painstaking restorations. Through it all, Scotsman has remained a beloved part of the country's heritage. The ELR has been privileged to play a key part in that story, being the site of Scotsman's historic restoration. Since then her visits have drawn record numbers. Ride behind Flying Scotsman 5,6,7,12,13,14 June 2026 Take a trip behind the legendary Flying Scotman along the entirety of the ELR line. Railway Touring Company - The Cumbrian Mountain Express

The Cumbrian Mountain Express Saturday 20 June 2026 The Cumbrian Mountain Express provides a wonderful opportunity to get out and about during the summer months, with the added bonus of steam haulage over the Northern Fells, including the spectacular Settle & Carlisle Railway. We have a high speed journey down the West Coast Main Line to Carnforth, hauled by a blue Class 86 electric locomotive. We then enjoy a circular steam tour outwards via Shap to Carlisle and back via the Settle and Carlisle line. We return from Preston to London behind our blue electric locomotive. We leave London Euston with electric traction, and speed north along the West Coast Main Line (WCML). We stop to pick up passengers at Watford Junction, Milton Keynes, Rugby (where passengers from Northampton join by service train), Nuneaton and Crewe. We continue north along the WCML to Preston, our final stop to pick up passengers. We continue through Lancaster to Carnforth, where we change motive power to a steam locomotive from the Carnforth pool. Leaving Carnforth, our steam locomotive will be working hard when we climb the first severe gradient up to Grayrigg. We then travel through the beautiful Lune Gorge to Tebay, gaining speed for the ascent to Shap. This well-known section of the WCML has a gradient of 1 in 75 and, in the former days of steam locomotives, banking engines from Tebay were often used to assist trains. After crossing the Cumbrian Fells we descend to Penrith, and then head for Carlisle. There will be around two hours in Carlisle, providing time to explore this ancient 'Border' city with its castle, cathedral, Tullie House Museum, and shopping centre. We leave Carlisle and join the Settle & Carlisle Railway, one of the most well known and best loved stretches of railway line in Britain. We soon begin climbing, and then at Appleby, we stop for our steam locomotive to take on water. We pass over tall viaducts, including the famous one at Ribblehead, and through tunnels. There are magnificent views across the Fells and to the peaks of Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough. We should have a fast run out of the hills, through Settle, until we stop again for our locomotive to take on water. ?Our journey continues through Hellifield and Clitheroe to Preston where we say goodbye to our steam locomotive. We pass though Wigan and Warrington en route to Crewe hauled by our blue class 86 electric locomotive with a fast run to London expected. We stop at the same stations as on the outward journey to set down passengers. Eventim Apollo, Hammersmith, London - 85 Years Of Letting Off Steam: An Evening With Christopher Awdry

85 Years Of Letting Off Steam: An Evening With Christopher Awdry Thursday 25 June 2026 On 25 June, London's iconic Eventim Apollo will host a truly special one-off evening. Promoted by Splot and Full Steam Ahead, '85 Years Of Letting Off Steam', celebrates the life and legacy of Christopher Awdry, storyteller, railway historian, and custodian of one of the world's most beloved literary worlds. For over eight decades, Christopher Awdry has lived a life shaped by steam, story and tradition. Together with his father, Wilbert Awdry, the Reverend who first imagined the Island of Sodor, he helped create the 42 books that form The Railway Series, a cornerstone of children's publishing that continues to delight new generations through Thomas & Friends. Hosted by legendary record producer and lifelong rail enthusiast Pete Waterman, the evening promises warmth, insight and no shortage of steam-powered nostalgia. Through conversation, rare insights and untold stories, audiences will be taken on a journey across Christopher's remarkable 85 years, from his early attempts at writing (including an abandoned detective series), to his career as a government-recruited tax officer and ultimately to his pivotal role as Railway Series author from 1983 to 2011. Joining Christopher Awdry on stage will be Mike O'Donnell, the original composer behind the beloved Thomas & Friends television score; Clive Spong, whose detailed artwork helped define the visual identity of The Railway Series; and Mark Moraghan, one of the modern voices of Sodor. Together, they bring a rare, multi-generational perspective to one of the most enduring storytelling worlds ever created. There will be a special VIP package, which will include: An intimate, pre-show lecture from Christopher Awdry, with meet & greet / photo opportunity (with Christopher Awdry only), the chance to view artefacts from the Awdry family archive, plus an exclusive VIP gift bag.

Railway Touring Company - The Cumbrian Coast Express

The Cumbrian Coast Express Saturday 27 June 2026 Our journey will combine the scenic grandeur of the Cumbrian Fells with the exposed Cumbrian coastline that skirts the western edge of the Lake District. We have a high-speed journey down the West Coast Main Line to Carnforth, hauled by a blue Class 86 electric locomotive. We then enjoy a steam tour from Carnforth via the Cumbria Coast. We return from Carnforth to London behind our blue electric locomotive. We leave London Euston with electric traction, and speed north along the West Coast Main Line (WCML). We stop to pick up passengers at Milton Keynes, Rugby (where passengers from Northampton join by service train), Nuneaton and Crewe. We continue north along the WCML to Preston, our final stop to pick up passengers. We pass through Lancaster and along the edge of Morecambe Bay before arriving at Carnforth. Leaving Carnforth steam hauled, we pass the famous Brief Encounter cafebefore continuing to Arnside, crossing the Kent Viaduct to Grange-over-Sands. Our journey then continues over the Leven Viaduct through Ulverston and Dalton, before travelling via Kirkby-in-Furness and Millom along the spectacular Cumbrian Coast to Ravenglass. At Ravenglass, we have arranged a private charter on the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway, which is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year. Alternatively, for those who prefer, there is an optional excursion to visit Muncaster Castle. After enjoying our time at Ravenglass, we rejoin our steam-hauled train for the return journey to Carnforth, once again taking in the scenic coastal route along the southern Cumbrian Coast. At Millom, we head inland and follow the sweeping estuary through Foxfield and Kirkby in Furness. Once again we curve along the edge of the bay through to Grange-over-Sands. There are more views across Morecambe Bay as we cross the lengthy Kent Viaduct at Arnside and approach Carnforth. Here, we shall say farewell to our gallant steam locomotive and our blue Class 86 electric locomotive will take over for a fast run to London Euston. We stop at the same stations as on the outward journey to set down passengers. **Updated 21/05/26 Available Classes Premier Dining Premier Dining includes a full English breakfast and four course dinner freshly prepared on board and silver served at your seat. Railway Touring Company - The Mazey Day Cornishman

The Mazey Day Cornishman Saturday 27 June 2026 Join us on this special excursion to the far west of Cornwall to experience the Mazey Day festivities in the Cornish town of Penzance. Mazey Day is the main event of the annual midsummer Golowan Festival in Penzance, with its traditional arts, music and parades, including the large wicker models created by the community. Enjoy the street entertainment, markets, food and craft stalls set up in the streets, along with live music, dancing and street performers providing entertainment across the town. The town will be decorated with flags and flowers, creating a vibrant and colourful atmosphere. On top of this, you can enjoy a highly scenic journey all the way to the southwest from the comfort of your special train. The Mazey Day Cornishman will leave Dorridge diesel hauled by two Class 37 locomotives early in the morning which provides a convenient departure point for Warwickshire and west Birmingham customers to join. We then make our way to Birmingham New Street where a further pick will be made. Our journey southwards will follow the Bristol main line through to pick up stops at Worcestershire Parkway and Cheltenham, followed by a call at Cam & Dursley. Our last pick up stations will be at Bristol Parkway and Bristol Temple Meads. From Bristol we will speed across the Somerset Levels and over the border into Devon after the climb to Whiteball Summit, arriving in Exeter as a prelude to the run along the Exe estuary and the famous Dawlish Seawall. Enjoy the glimmer of the waves reflecting on our train as we run along the shoreline of the English Channel through Dawlish towards Teignmouth, one of the great rail journeys of England. Cutting inland, we will follow the Teign estuary to Newton Abbot where we encounter the first of many of the day's steep inclines as we climb the challenging east side of Dainton Bank. More climbing follows once through Totnes, as we take a run at Rattery Bank and along the edge of Dartmoor, on our way to Plymouth. There will be a short leg stretch in Plymouth. From Plymouth, we will cross the river Tamar on the spectacular Royal Albert Bridge, engineered by Isambard Kingdom Brunel and opened in 1859. The two lenticular iron spans take the railway line high across the Tamar into Cornwall. Our journey continues to twist and turn through Cornwall with its many viaducts and tunnels to pass through on the way. We will pause at Par to set down passengers who may wish to explore the local area that includes the pretty harbour villages of Fowey or Charlestown, or perhaps take the train to Newquay if a seaside destination appeals to you. As we continue through Cornwall, you will see the characteristic white hills from the china clay industrial mining as we make our way through to Truro, where there will be the option to detrain to visit this interesting cathedral city, or perhaps take the local train to the attractive harbour town of Falmouth. As we progress into deepest Cornwall, your journey will include rolling countryside all the way, with frequent sightings of Cornish Engine Houses visible from the train, once the heart of the extensive tin mining industry. Our penultimate stop to set down will be at St Erth where you can opt to alight and take the short branch train to St Ives. As we near journeys end at Penzance, there is still one more gem to see at Marazion as we pass the spectacular St Michaels Mount that dominates the skyline. We will be aiming to arrive at Penzance around lunch time and you will have now have time to visit Penzance and experience the festivities of Mazey Day. The town is right by the station and there are promenade walks by the waterside to allow you to soak up the atmosphere during your free time in Penzance. Apart from all the Mazey Day street festivities going on during your visit, be sure to sample a real Cornish pasty! Once our time comes to reluctantly leave the Mazey Day celebrations, we will return to Dorridge by way of our outward route, setting down at our earlier pick up points, thus ending our full day to Cornwall from the West Midlands. Available Classes Premier Dining Premier Dining includes a full English breakfast and four course dinner freshly prepared on board and silver served at your seat. First Class First Class includes morning tea or coffee with a breakfast roll and a muffin and an afternoon service of tea or coffee with a savoury of the day followed by scone with butter and jam. Bluebell Railway - Model Railway Weekend

Model Railway Weekend Saturday 27 June and Sunday 28 June 2026 'For 2026 we are pleased to announce that the event will be bigger, broader, and more exciting than ever before.' Hi all, my name is Stepney and this year is my 150th year! I am a small Terrier locomotive. I live and work at the Bluebell Railway. I have had all sorts of fun and adventures here at the railway and now it's my big birthday. Some of you will know when the Rev W Awdry visited the Bluebell Railway many years ago and then wrote a story about me and the preservation work of a Heritage Railway. That was very exciting! In his book he wrote about me visiting the Island of Sodor and making lots of new friends. Please come and visit me during our model railway weekend, meet some of my friends, some very old and some not so old. For more information sign up to our newsletter and social media channels - there are exciting things to tell you about later in the year! We are pleased to announce that Ffarquhar Branch will be joining us at the Bluebell Railway Model Railway Weekend this June. This is a rare opportunity to see one of the most influential and historically important model railway layouts in Britain. The Ffarquhar Branch is a model railway of outstanding historical importance, created by the Rev. W. Awdry, author of The Railway Series. First built in 1955, it was designed from the outset as an exhibition layout, reflecting Awdry's lifelong passion for realistic railway operation and accurate modelling. In 1968, the layout was comprehensively rebuilt into the form we see today. This redesign allowed it to fit more easily within Awdry's new home and, famously, into the boot of his new car, ensuring it could continue travelling to exhibitions. By this point, most of The Railway Series had already been written, so the layout was not created to develop the stories themselves. However, it continued to influence Awdry's work, later inspiring characters and events that appeared in his final book, Tramway Engines. Although the layout dates from the mid-1950s, much of the rolling stock predates it. The model of Percy, for example, was built in 1948 to show the illustrator how this new character should appear during the preparation of Troublesome Engines. Similarly, the origins of Awdry's Stepney models lie in 1963, when they were constructed to demonstrate the locomotive's complex livery in three dimensions for illustration purposes. The layout represents the terminus at Ffarquhar and its surrounding branch line, capturing the character of a lightly-built rural railway. It showcases Awdry's belief that model railways should operate as real railways do, combining visual charm with credible, engaging operation. Today, the Ffarquhar Branch is carefully preserved by the Talyllyn Railway, and its appearance at the Bluebell Railway Model Railway Weekend offers a rare opportunity to see a layout with direct links to both railway and literary history. We are very grateful to everyone at the Talyllyn Railway for their support in making this special appearance possible. The Ffarquhar Branch will be on display alongside a wide range of other layouts, traders, and attractions, all set within the unique living heritage environment of the Bluebell Railway.
